The Bahía de Algeciras Port, located in a geostrategic enclave, has positioned itself as the leader of the Mediterranean and the Spanish port system in total merchandise traffic, reaching the record figure of 107 million tons. According to Gerardo Landaluce, president of the Port Authority of Algeciras, the Port Authority has a clear roadmap to continue this trend following “three strategic lines of action: competitiveness, sustainable development and innovation.” On the other hand, the fruit and vegetable producing sector in Spain and its unstoppable increase in exports make it a sector to take into account as an ally of the port.
For this reason, Fruit Logistica will celebrate a special day on November 12, with the support and collaboration of the Port of Algeciras, in which it will analyze the challenges that the logistics sector must face in the transport of fruits and vegetables, and with which it aims to promote maritime loads of refrigerated products from this Port.
The opening of the event will be carried out by Gerardo Landaluce, president of the Bahía de Algeciras Port Authority, who will welcome those attending this event organized by Fruit Logistica in collaboration with the port institution.
Next, the block that will address the challenges faced by the production sector will begin. To this end, the day will feature interventions by Enrique Colilles, manager of Trops, and Iván Hernández, head of the R&D Department at Doñana 1998.
Trops, the leading cooperative in Europe in the production of avocado and mango, completes its production window with distant markets such as Peru or Chile and is a benchmark in the tropical category. For its part, Doñana 1998 will analyze the key factors on which its R&D department works to extend the useful life of its products. berries and be able to reach their markets of interest by sea.
Analyzing the logistics services that operate from Puerto Algeciras, Álvaro Lanao, Reefer Manager of the French shipping company CMA CGM, will intervene, who will present the shipping company's work on its overseas routes – such as Moín-Algeciras, which currently has a transit of 11 days – as well as its short-medium term future forecast. To complete the vision of the process to which the loads are subjected, Isabel Sánchez-Trasancos will attend as Head of the Algeciras Border Inspection Post, who will share the requirements that fresh products that arrive by sea must meet.
Finally, from the organization of the fair, Ms. Silvia de Juanes, communication director of Fruit Logistica for Spain and Latin America, will present the fair's proposals aimed at the logistics sector through the celebration of the Logistics Hub cycle.
