“Hamburg Süd strengthens trade in Europe, Central America, the Caribbean and the west coast of South America”

“Commerce between Europe and Central America, the Caribbean and the West Coast of South America has always been a key element in the Global Hamburg Süd Services Network. In cooperation with Maersk, Hamburg Süd will expand and improve the services it offers in this central trade as of June 2019.

"Combining the strengths of Hamburg Süd and Maersk, we can offer our customers the best service, regardless of their class, without having to depend on the exchange agreements with other transport companies," says Frank Smet, commercial director of Hamburg Süd. "This offers maximum flexibility for the needs of commerce and our customers, because we can design and operate the systems in a totally independent way, which also allows us to make adjustments to meet specific load flows; for example, to reduce the transit times of perishable products or to call different ports directly if there is enough demand from our customers."

The new independent service that covers Europe from/towards Central America, the Caribbean and the west coast of South America (SAWC1) will provide operational integrity, high reliability of additional schedules and characteristics, such as:

Fast and direct connection between the Chilean ports of San Vicente and San Antonio and northern Europe.

Improved links from the global network through the central ports of Balboa, Cartagena and Manzanillo; Customers will have access to the leading global market of the Maersk Group, including US ports, Russia, Mediterranean and the Middle East. ”
