The transport and logistics sector asks for support to maintain activity despite the coronavirus

He transport and logistics sector demanded this Friday to the Government urgent measures that facilitate the activity to guarantee the product distribution even to areas where lockdowns are decreed. The employers of the sector Fenadismer and CETM They recalled that 85% of the merchandise is distributed by road and it is necessary that no restrictions are applied to transport.

precisely, the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) exceptionally lifted this Friday the restrictions on movement for the transport of goods as of this Saturday, March 14 to ensure fluidity and mobility and guarantee supply in the crisis situation that Spain is experiencing due to the expansion of the coronavirus.

The Spanish Confederation of Goods Transport (CETM) has sent a letter to the Minister of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, José Luis Ábalos, in which he requests his collaboration to establish a protocol for action in the sector, which guarantees the safety of transport workers. This organization has said that it is essential to protect both the workers of the freight transport companies and the shippers, as well as the clients and the end user, since the transport companies depend on the supplies of essential products, such as Sanitary material, medicines and food, arrive on time and to all areas.

In its letter, the employers ask the minister to create a crisis cabinet with the National Road Transport Committee (CNTC) and to meet virtually with the sector urgently, given the difficulties it is going through, which are added to the losses caused by the DANA storm and the protests over the procès sentence.

Fenadismer demands that a possible declaration of the state of alarm "does not establish any restriction on the activity of road transport to guarantee the supply of goods to the population in general and to the rest of the economic and productive activities of the country."

Fenadismer considers that "support and management measures" are necessary for the activity provided by the 100,000 transport companies that, according to its data, operate in Spain and that add up to a fleet of more than 400,000 trucks "with which they guarantee an adequate supply to the population and the rest of the activities.
